Vets

Vet near Four Paws: A new Veterinary Centre, Hilltop Vets, has opened on the Hinksey Heights location. You may find the location convenient, and there is plenty of parking at the Centre. At the time of adding this suggestion, the Centre is closed on Sundays, though may expand to 24 hour service in the future. The vet is independent of Four Paws, so we have no intimate knowledge of the practice. Address: The Barn, Hinksey Heights, Southern bypass, Oxford, OX1 5AB. Tel: 01865 73 60 60. Website: Hilltop vets. [added in March 2017]

Dog friendly holidays

Little Dumpledale Farm, Pembrokeshire. Self-catering cottages and a static caravan, all with fully enclosed grass gardens. Fabulous beaches and countryside. Haverfordwest is about four miles away for supermarket shopping, with Pembroke and its castle just over the estuary.Very dog-friendly — and you can take as many dogs as you like. Accommodation is very comfortable and well looked after. Website: Little Dumpledale Farm.   [added in July 2017]

Small hotel in Kent countryside: Elvey Farm. When you arrive you might notice a small stain on your room carpet and nowhere sensible to put your toiletries, but don't worry, we found that the charm of this hotel soon took us over. It is totally and utterly delightful. All the important things are in place, like good housekeeping, nice shower, a comfortable bed and friendly staff. Fantastic restaurant. (Or, for a change of menu, visit the Rose and Crown pub 10 minutes walk away, which accepts dogs and serves very good food.) Elvey Farm is excellent for dogs. The rooms open straight onto the hotel gardens, with an entrance area which is perfect for mud removal! There are walks across the gentle Kentish countryside straight from the hotel. For a different day out, the beach (Camber Sands) is within driving distance - dogs are allowed throughout the year on some sections.   [added in April 2015]

Self-catering cottages in Cornwall: A member stayed at Rose Cottage. Recommended as comfortable, luxurious, warm (in the winter), and really well equipped, with every utensil you could wish for. A walk through a field led to the coastal path, with miles of sandy beaches at Carbis Bay. Carbis Bay is only a few miles from St Ives, with a little train going to St Ives. Website: Gonwin Manor Cottages.   [added in early 2012]

Self-catering cottage near Dunster / Minehead: Very good location for Exmoor and North Somerset / Devon Coast. Lots of dog walks. There are a lot of narrow single track roads in the area. Website: Burrow Farm on Exmoor.   [added in early 2012]
